Woman dies in hospital hours after surgery, family alleges medical negligence

SKIMS refused to provide ambulance for carrying body

KANGAN: Patients and their attendants staged protest against hospital staff alleging negligence of doctors led to death of a local woman operated at Trauma hospital Kangan in central Kashmir Ganderbal district on Friday.
The deceased woman has been identified as 40 year Fareeda Begum wife of Abdul Jaleel a resident of Hillpati Gund area of Ganderbal district who was operated for sterilisation on Thrusday.
“It is shame for the administration, and government who has turned a blind eye towards the hospital and has failed to provide treatment to poor patients, the protesters told Valley Online.
The family members of deceased woman said that on Thursday morning Fareeda along with her sister and daughter went to Trauma hospital Kangan for sterilisation surgery.
They said doctors examined her on the day and operated her same day at 3pm along with some more patients.
“after the surgery doctor did not examine her again in the meantime she developed unbearable pain which deteriorated her condition due to medical negligence after surgery and she was almost dead within hours of surgery” a relative of deceased woman told Valley Online.
He said the attending sister of Fareeda went to see a doctor on wee hours of Friday but she found no doctor in the hospital who could see the patient.
After hours another local who according to family members helped them whole night went to see a doctor as patient was in severe pain found a doctor sleeping in his room and apprised him about the Fareeda’s condition.
I will come to the ward family members quoted the doctor as saying but he did not turn up even after the given time.
They said her condition deteriorated badly within 12 hours of the surgery and the doctors didn’t refer Fareeda to Skims soura on time.
“ It was only when she almost died they referred her to Skims Soura and it’s doctors’ negligence which resulted Fareeda’s death” family members claimed.
“This is very unfortunate. We are poor and we admit our patients here with a hope but the authorities here turn blind eyes towards us,” one of the family member of deceased woman told Valley Online.
However the family members of the deceased lady also alleged that the Authorities at SKIMS Soura also refused to provide ambulance to carry the body of Fareeda to her native village.
They said the family remain stranded with the body for hours waiting for an ambulance to take it home. Even after repeated requests were made by the family members for an ambulance the staff on duty appeared unmoved.
“later CMO Ganderbal arrange an ambulance to carry the body of deceased woman” a family source told Valley Online.
The family members along with locals have demanded strict actions against the doctor and the hospital staff members.
” A probe has been ordered into the incident. The matter will be investigated by five members committee of doctors who will submit the report within days” CMO Ganderbal Roshan din Kasana told Valley Online.
When contacted SDM Kangan Mehraj Ud Din Shah he said “Medical Superintendent has been directed to submit factual reports in the matter and SDPO Kangan has been asked to investigate and take appropriate action under law in the matter”
