Three Special Police Officers Killed in Shopian
Three Special Police Officers (SPOs) were kidnapped and later killed by militants in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday, officials said.
The brother of a cop, who was also kidnapped, has been freed.
The four were kidnapped from Kapren and Batagund villages in Shopian district on Thursday night. Their bodies were found on Friday morning.
“The three SPOs have been shot dead while the brother of a policeman has been freed,” an official said.
The kidnappings followed a warning by militants asking police personnel, especially SPOs, to tender resignation.
Last month, 11 relatives of police personnel were kidnapped and later set free by militants in south Kashmir. These kidnappings followed the detention of the father of Hizbul Mujahideen operation commander Riyaz Naikoo by security forces.
