Three LeT militants killed in Qazigund gunfight; one caught alive
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Tuesday that three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in a gunfight that took place in Kulgam district of south Kashmir the day before.
The victims comprised two LeT Pakistani militants identified as Furqan and Maviya and a local militant, Yawar Bashir of Hablish village of Kulgam, said an official.
He said another militant was arrested alive from the site of the gunfight. His identity was not immediately known.
The gunfight started after militants attacked an Army patrol on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Bounigam area.
After attacking the patrol, the militants entered a house in Bonigam village which was surrounded by the government forces.
A soldier was also killed and another injured during the encounter.
A militant in an injured condition was also arrested during the encounter, Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid said on Tuesday morning.
A soldier was also killed while two others besides three civilians were injured in the encounter.
Vaid said the killed militants were involved in the attack on Amarnath Yatris in July this year. Seven Amarnath pilgrims were killed and 15 injured when militants attacked a bus carrying at least 56 passengers at Botengo village near Islamabad, on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, in Southern Kashmir.
Vaid took to Twitter and said, “Body of third terrorist Yawar a local was also recovered from encounter site & 4th terrorist caught alive in injured condition. Well done boys.” In a subsequent tweet, Vaid said: “With the elimination of Abu Ismail earlier & now these three Abu Mavia, Furkan & Yawar group that attacked Amarnath Yatries is wiped out.”
