Shehla Rashid demands justice for Asiya and Neelofar
JKPM leader Shehla Rashid paid her respects to the the victims of 2009 Shopian Rape case, on the 10th anniversary of the gruesome incident.
Expressing solidarity with the families of the victims, she said that it was unfortunate how the case was hushed up and justice wasn’t melted out to the alleged perpetrators.
“Complete absence of justice is what we saw regarding the Shopain rape case. The whole valley erupted for months yet nothing satisfactory was done in this regard. Laws like AFSPA are used to provide immunity in rape cases, which is a huge travesty of justice. The use of sexual violence as a tool of oppression is highly condemnable and unfortunate. Several such cases have taken place over the years, but nothing close to justice has been delivered, be it Kunan Poshpora, Kathua or Shopian cases. If the government wants to reach out to people, it must ensure justice to women victims and survivors of the conflict.”
