Met predicts wet spell from Tuesday
The Meteorological department predicted another spell of light to moderate snowfall in Kashmir from January 28 and 29, however, cold wave conditions would continue to prevail in the Valley.
Talking to RK, Director Meteorological department, Kashmir, Sonam Lotus said they were expecting another spell of light snowfall in plains while the upper reaches would receive moderate to heavy snowfall from Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon.
He said the intensity of light rains and snowfall from Tuesday in Kashmir would be low compared to the previous spells and the main activity of the spell would be on Tuesday.
A senior official at the Indian Metrological Department said fresh and active Western Disturbances were very likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Monday onward.
“It will likely cause fairly widespread of rains and snow over western Himalayan region with isolated heavy rains and snowfall over Jammu Kashmir from January 28 to 29,” the official said.
As per the weathermen, cold wave would continue to prevail in the Valley and there would be more decrease in night temperatures and increase in day temperatures within next 24 hours in Kashmir.
Officials at the Traffic department said there would be a one-way traffic highway on Monday and the passage of vehicles would be allowed from Srinagar toward Jammu.
“No vehicles will be allowed from the opposite direction,” the officials said.
LMV owners have been asked to cross Levdoora, Qazigund junction from 7 am to 1 pm and after that Heavy Motor Vehicles would be allowed to ply on the highway.
However, Srinagar-Leh highway, Anantnag-Kishtwar road and Mughal Road continued to remain closed for vehicular traffic due to accumulation of several feet of snow and slippery road conditions.
