GANDERBAL: The loot of green gold is rampant in Sindh forest range Kangan area of central Kashmir’s district Ganderbal.
As per source the loot of Green Gold is going unabated in Compartment No: 1, 2 and 4 in Najwan forests of Sindh forest range Kangan.
It’s pertinent to mention here that last year dozens of ‘Deodar’ trees were cut down by smugglers in same compartments of Najwan Forests, which was live broadcast by Valley Online, but unfortunately Governor administration didn’t took any strict action due to which the practice continued till this time.
Meanwhile locals alleged that the loot of green gold is rampant in these forests from last several years and those who are getting handsome salary to protect forests are giving way to smugglers which has raised several questions.
They said that the higher ups in forest department have failed to act against the erring officers who according them are hand in glove with smugglers.
The smugglers fell green trees, particularly during night hours, and sometimes even in the broad daylight, and ferry the timber for sale in the adjoining villages.
Meanwhile social activists and environmentalists have appealed Governor of UT Jammu and Kashmir to take serious action against the concerned department who according to them are involved in heinous crime.
When contacted DFO Ganderbal and Range officer control room Srinagar they said “we are accessing the facts, we can’t share any details with you at the moment”.
