Lack of portable water irks residents of Ganderbal Village

GANDERBAL: Scores of residents of Benhama village in Ganderbal district are up in arms against the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) for failing to provide them with potable water from last many days.
The residents said due to shortage of drinking water, people of Benhama village are facing many inconveniences.
“For the last one week, water remains only for two to 4 days. It is as if the PHE department is playing hide and seek with us. We are facing many inconveniences due to this,” a local resident said.
Another resident said that the villagers are not able to keep themselves properly clean in this current lockdown and scare of COVID-19 due to inadequate water supply.
Residents said that while lack of water facilities at their homes force them to fetch water at the stream, “but it creates a crowd around the stream and therefore unnecessarily increases the vulnerability of getting coronavirus.”
When contacted, Executive Engineer Ganderbal Mohd Aslam he told that the water supply in the village is affected from the past two days due to the incessant rains since last week.
“The issue will be solved today and the residents will be provided safe water,” he said.
