Killing of Manan Wani: Shutdown in Kashmir, Educational Institutions closed, Internet speed reduced in Srinagar
SRINAGAR: Educational institutions in major parts of Kashmir Valley to remain shut today in wake of the killing of scholar turned militant commander Manan Wani.
Manan along with his associate Ashiq Huaain were killed in a gunfight with Government Forces in Shatgund area of North Kashmir’s Handwara town on Thursday.
An official said that educational institutions across Sopore Division, Bandipora, Kupwara are closed. The step has been taken to maintain law and order in wake of the strike call given by Joint Resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
Rail service has also been suspended in between Banihal to Baramullah. All educational institutions including private schools are shut in Kashmir capital Srinagar while class work has also been suspended at Kashmir University.
Meanwhile, authorities have reduced the internet speed from allegedly 4G to 2G. Heavey security arrangements have been put in place in restive parts of Valley while concertina wires have been laid in different places of Srinagar city to restrict the movement of people.
Reports said there is curfew like situation in Lolab area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district- the home town of Dr Manan Wani.
