We spoke with him about Kashmir’s rich heritage, its culture, Tulip garden and his memories from the Valley,
“When I was kid we use to visit Nishat Shalimar garden, Pari Mahal, Dal lake, Nehru Park these places are common for us, but the real beauty of Kashmir is outside Srinagar like Pehelgham, Dhoothpatri, Sonamarg, Gulmarg beauty to its natural max.
Every corner of Kashmir is beautiful “are woh toh asli khoobsurti hain jo main bayaan nahi kar sakhta hu, (Speechless beauty of Kashmir lies in the villages).
VO: What about the Tulip garden as it has been thrown open today?
IK: “I have never witnessed the Tulips when its blooming and I have seen Tulips only in snaps, internet, films and you know we realize how beautiful these Tulips are which gives us complete happiness to your eyes and mind.
VO: Now here in Mumbai vacations are going start so any plans of visiting Kashmir with your daughter
IK: “Vacations haven’t started as of now and Insha Allah very soon I will visit my Kashmir and I have taken my daughter to the valley. Every year we come here and so this year also we would visit.
VO: Which places in Kashmir you would tell to the people living outside Jammu and Kashmir to visit?
IK: “I am very emotional when it comes to Kashmir and I feel even to down town Srinagar and every place in Kashmir has character whether you visit outskirts or whether you visit typical Mughal garden or whether you go the mountains or the river near Pahalgham or snow in Gulmarg. It’s the land of Sufis.”
VO: What about the layout structures about the houses?
IK: “It has to be different and its unique and the roofs of houses or mosques has to be slanting because of the snow and there cannot be a canopy as the snow would get accumulated and so the roofs are slanting and so there are steel roofs.
One would find amazing dargah’s in the valley which has slanting roofs of Makdoom Sahib dargah in Srinagar which is beautiful and Khaniyar dargah structure are beautiful with slanting roofs and then there is Tabrookh gilani mosque which is again an amazing structure.
It feels great with such mind blowing structure and I am proud of my Kashmiri culture, its rich heritage, pashmina shawls, the carpets and feel proud to be a Kashmiri.
VO: Tell us about Kashmiri food
IK: ”I love Kashmiri food which included and every Kashmiri favourite Kashmiri Wazwan which is collective of different food as its not one dish, then there is Khatte Baingan it is prepared best by the Kashmiri Pandits (Chok Wangun) Noon Chai (Pink Tea).
