Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday said she was aggrieved by Unnao rape victim’s death and asked the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure quick justice for the family. Mayawati also urged state governments and the Centre to instil fear of law among the people and hang culprits within the stipulated time.
“The death of the Unnao rape victim who died in Delhi last night is extremely painful. The BSP is with the victim’s family in this hour of grief. The UP government must ensure quick justice for the victim’s family. This is the demand of justice and the public,” Mayawati said in a tweet in Hindi.
“To prevent such traumatic incidents from happening across the country including UP, state governments should instil fear of law among the people. Also, the central government must hang culprits within the stipulated time and make a law for the strict execution of the punishment,” she added in another tweet.
The 23-year-old Unnao rape victim who was airlifted to Delhi and admitted to Safdarjung Hospital with 90 per cent burns after being set on fire died on Friday night. After battling for life for almost 40 hours, the woman died following a cardiac arrest, hospital sources said.
On Friday, Mayawati praised the Hyderabad Police for its strong action against the accused in the gang rape and murder of a veterinarian and asked UP Police to take inspiration from them.

“The action that has been taken by the Hyderabad Police is praiseworthy,” Mayawati said, reacting to the encounter killings of the four accused.
In UP, this is happening every day not just in one district but in every district. Be it young girls or aged women, nobody is being spared. There is jungle raj in UP,” Mayawati said, adding that when she was chief minister she had acted even against members of her own party.
The former UP CM asked the state police to take inspiration from Hyderabad police and take strict action against culprits in such cases.
