Govt schools suffer poor Teacher Pupil Rationalisation
The government-run schools across Kashmir are witnessing poor rationalisation in terms of Teacher Pupil Ratio (TPR) with one teacher teaching only 12 students instead of the Education department guidelines of 1:30.
Most of the government schools have either deficit of teachers or surplus students.
According to Samagra Shiksha, during 2018-19, the TPR in Government Primary Schools across Kashmir is 1:14 wherein with 19,416 teachers teaching 2,73,447 students.
Similarly, the TPR of upper Government Primary Schools of Kashmir division is 1:9.
In these schools at least 18,974 teachers are posted to teach 1,68,505 students.
These figures were revealed by the officials of Samagra Shiksha in a meeting to the Commissioner Secretary, School Education Department.
Likewise, the TPR in Government Secondary Schools is 1:10 where in 9091 teachers are teaching 93,727 students.
In Government Higher Secondary Schools, the TPR is 1:21.
In these educational institutions 1,12,498 enrolled students are taught by 5269 teachers.
Officials in the meeting said the average TPR in the schools under Samagra Shiksha of Kashmir division is 1:12 with a total student enrolment of 6,48,177 and 52,750 teachers.
In the previous academic year, the Government Boys Middle School Razwan Budgam had 10 teachers to teach just 64 students while in the same zone in GBMS Ompora there were 14 teachers for just 65 students.
In Government Primary School Wavoosa, Budgam, four teachers are posted just for 25 students and in Government Girls Primary School, Shiekhpora, five teachers are posted just for 24 students.
In that academic year, the Government Boys High School, Gogji Gund, Ganderbal had 15 teachers for 64 students instead of the required two.
Similarly, the school in Astan Mohalla, Gutli Bagh of main zone of the district in that academic year had no student enrolled but two teachers were still posted there.
In the Government Middle School Wavil Wador for 180 students, there are 10 teachers, in GPS Sahi Pora 1 teacher is posted for only six students, Government Primary School Parray Mohalla Wayil Balla has two teachers for only 8 students and in Government Primary School Chanhar Balla, two teacher teach just 7 students.
