Here We spoke with TV’s most handsome actor Rajeev Khandelwal about Haq Se, reuniting with Surveen Chawla and about his love for Kashmir.
VO: What is Haq Se all about?
RK: “Its series based on a book called Little Woman… it’s a very popular book and backdrop is set in Kashmir and its tale of four Kashmiri sisters, their ambitions, their dreams but its based in Kashmir and not because to make the backdrop beautiful here, Kashmir plays important character in the show and it doesn’t highlight any particular issue.
VO: Is it a social issues highlighting?
RK: “Yaa..You can say it… again the backdrop is Kashmir as most of the issues are political and show doesn’t highlight an political issues. The series doesn’t give any opinion on Kashmir, it does set about the mindset of Kashmiris living there. Its not an outsiders point of view but its Kashmiris who are living there and probably living outside Kashmir.
VO: What’s your character Dr.Naushaad Rizvi is all about?
RK: ”I am playing this character called Dr.Naushaad Rizvi and I am one of the many characters in the series. He has his own past, his present..He has his own issues inshort this character is very complicated.
VO: Is this character different from all the characters that you have played in Kahiin Toh Hoga, Reporters etc ?
RK: ”Yes…why it would be similar because all these characters which I have played had something unique and but most of the characters are similar to each other. This character won’t remind my any of my past roles which I have played as it has come from a different pen.
VO: Any preparation you did for this role like diction, medical terminology etc?
RK: ”Yes..I have to work on my diction since backdrop is Kashmir so here we are speaking Urdu and on the sets actress Rukshaar use to guide us regarding Urdu and there were creative members as well who use to help us. We did a workshop as well to get a correct pronunciation of words in Urdu. In case of medical terminology we did lots of hardwork as well so that correct words are pronounced properly.
VO: The show has been shot in Kashmir?
RK: ”Pura shoot nahi hua Kashmir main….
We had gone there but at the time of shooting there was problems going on in the Kashmir, so we did little exterior part and later on we shoot in Manali.
VO: Have you learned Kashmiri language as the characters are kashmiri?”
RK: No! the creative’s of the show decided to make it very cosmo politon.. acchi khasi Urdu hain and moreover all the characters in the series are progressive in thinking.
The show is more urban and that particular accent is not there atleast in my character as he has studied abroad and he is very todays guy.
VO: Hows working with Surveen Chawla and director Ken Ghosh?
RK: ”It was great. We have shooted together in ‘Kahiin Toh Hoga’, very hardworking, during earlier days of her career she was good and now also she is good, highly potential.
Ken was fun, he is live wire on the set. He is a fantastic. Every actors dream to work with him. He will never embarrassed you, it was great working him.
VO: Have you ever visited Kashmir?
RK: ”Yes…I have visited Kashmir so many times. We all know Kashmir is truly ‘Paradise on earth’. I have travelled in the interiors of the Kashmir. Kashmir has a special place in my heart. I love them. I have travelled to interiors of Wular lake to Jhelum Kund if you know Jhelum originates from Kashmir. I have travelled every village of Kashmir. All this Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pehlgham and Srinagar are common tourist destinations.. I have been in the interiors of Kashmir and love Wular lake… love the clean crystal water of the lake and this lake is one of cleanest lakes I have ever seen, the entire belt of Wular lake is very pretty. I go to Ladakh every time and then I drive down to Kashmir and also drive to Banihal tunnel which connects from Jammu and Kashmir use to be one of the longest tunnel in the country and many tourist don’t know how beautiful. Immediately if you from Banihal tunnel to Srinagar there is Jhelum Kund its beautiful journey place and not too many tourist go there for them its Sonamarg, Gulmarg and Srinagar is Kashmir. Sinthal top is ahead of Pehlgham even that is beautiful but the interiors part of Kashmir has lots more character. I have many friends who are Kashmiris. I know Kashmiri Wazwan, have pleasure of having Wazwan in the interiors of the Kashmir. I love Kashmiri salt tea.
