2016-17: Stone pelting cases of 5500 youth under review, reveals DGP at year-end presser
SRINAGAR: The director general of police (DGP) on Sunday revealed that stone pelting cases registered in 2016 and 2017 against at least 5500 youth are under review after JK government announced amnesty to 4300 youth.
The DGP also said that the trend of local youth joining militancy was “coming down”. “It is a down-ward trend,” he said.
The DGP also said that 75 youth were stopped from joining militant ranks while as 7 youth had left militancy and joined back their families.
However, he did not give their identity details.
The IGP Kashmir range, Munir Ahmad Khan, said that at least 24 civilians were killed during encounters in 2017.
